Cookie Policy
The cookies we need, and the ones we only place if you say yes. You choose, and you may change your mind.
Why we ask you something
A website only has to ask permission for cookies that are not strictly necessary. The ones that make a form work or remember the language you chose are not, so those need no permission. Google Analytics does need it, because it measures behaviour, and that is why we ask you once at the bottom of the page.
Accepting and refusing are the same button, side by side, and neither is tucked away. Refuse, and you get the whole site exactly as it is. Close the page without choosing and nothing is measured.
Changed your mind? Delete this site’s cookies in your browser and the question comes back on your next visit.
The cookies we use
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
mae_session |
Keeps your form session together and protects the booking and contact forms against misuse. Without it a form cannot be submitted. | Until you close your browser |
mae_lang |
Remembers which language you chose, so the front page opens in that language next time. Set only when you click EN, NL or ES yourself. | One year |
mae_consent |
Remembers whether you said yes or no to Google Analytics, so you are not asked again on every page. | One year |
mae_admin |
The login session of the owner’s administration area. A visitor never receives this cookie. | Up to four hours |
_ga |
Google Analytics. Recognises your browser between visits, so a returning visitor is not counted twice. Placed only after you accept. | Two years |
_ga_… |
Google Analytics. Holds the state of your visit together. The part after the underscore is our measurement number. Placed only after you accept. | Two years |
On a secure connection the session cookie is called __Host-mae. That is the same cookie under a stricter name that browsers only accept over HTTPS.
The first four are ours and are strictly necessary. The two beginning with _ga belong to Google and appear only if you accept.
Connections to other parties
The route map on an Experience page loads its map tiles from OpenStreetMap. That does not place a cookie, but your browser does contact OpenStreetMap directly, which means your IP address and browser are visible to them.
The film on the home page is hosted on YouTube. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play, no player, no image, no cookie. Once you do press play, YouTube receives your IP address and browser and may set cookies of its own, under Google’s privacy policy. We use the no-cookie version of the player, which limits that as far as YouTube allows.
Refusing or deleting cookies
You can delete cookies in your browser settings or refuse them altogether. If you refuse the session cookie, the booking and contact forms will stop working, they need it to tell one visitor from another.
